Today was such a hard day. Up until now Valerie has had some sadness but she's always let me comfort her. We're very thankful for that. But this morning something happened - maybe she realized that her life was changed for good or maybe she thought we might leave her (we were packing up the room to fly to Guangzhou). But she flipped. About two hours of screaming. This kid who up until now has hardly cried, went crazy. Screaming, flailing, pulling her hair, scratching herself, biting her fingers and banging her head on the floor. No way to comfort her - she was beside herself. So hard to watch. We even got a call from the front desk asking if we needed anything - someone had called to complain about the noise!
After exhausting herself she finally fell asleep.
Our group then went to the airport to fly to Guangzhou, where we will go through all the final steps with US immigration to bring our children home. Valerie did fine at the airport - even with the almost 3 hour flight delay. But on the plane was another story. She had another episode of hysterical screaming. Thankfully she didn't escalate to the point of hurting herself but it was another painful (literally, my ears hurt!) experience.
Pray for our little girl who's so confused and pray for us that we can be loving and patient.

Oh my. I can certainly relate completely to this experience. You will get through it but the healing, as you know, can take years.....
